These Incidents are serious crimes. We include the narratives in these reports to make you aware of how the crime occurred and identify suspect descriptions. Please be aware of your surroundings when out late at night and do not put yourself in a position where you could be a victim of a crime.

Attempted Robbery- On November 24, 2013, at approximately 2:11AM, I, Officer J. Dougherty, responded to an attempted robbery at 965 Drewry Street Northeast. The female victim, advised police that she was walking home from the bars when a white sedan stopped on the road beside her asking for directions. The vehicle had two black male suspects inside of it, and one of the males was wearing all white. She stated that as she was talking to the males a third suspect with dreads and wearing a black zip up hoodie, who looked like he was 14 years old, approached on foot. He lunged for her purse and she began to struggle with him. Then the suspect in all white exited the vehicle and wrestled the victim to the ground. The victim was screaming as she wrestled with the suspects, and the suspects eventually jumped in the car and fled when others walking along the street started towards them to see what was going on. The other people who approached to see what was going on could not advise police about what the vehicle or suspects looked like. Sgt. Skeens, unit 1694, was notified of the incident. And her boyfriend heard the screaming and looked out the window from their apartment and scream at the male to stop. Victim stated the male then stood to his feet and fled the location on foot east on Saint Charles Ave (Description: Possibly Asian or Hispanic Male, 5’7, clean shaven, dark hair, wearing a light colored T-Shirt)

ARREST MADE THEFT FROM AUTOMOBILES-On 12/09/2013 at 0230hrs I (OFC T Summary) and OFC J Christensen (4725) were on a patrol in the area of 503 Saint Charles Ave when we observed the accused, Dwight Beck DOB-06/14/1962, kneeling behind some bushes. The accused was wearing all dark clothing and when he saw us, he quickly knelt down between a parked car and some bushes. We exited our vehicle and made contact with the accused. I asked the accused what he was doing and he stated, “Just walking!" I then asked him if he lived in the area and he stated, “No!" The accused was shaking real bad and would not make eye contact with me while I was speaking with him. I then asked the accused if he had anything on him that I should know about and he stated, "No! But I do have a knife, a GPS and a screw driver. The male then proceeded to pull the items out. The accused had a Garmin Niiv GPS unit, with the window mount and charger. The accused also handed me a black and yellow Phillips head screw driver. I then asked the accused where he had gotten the GPS from and he stated, "From a Car!" and then quickly stated, “No next to a car!" I then detained the accused while I further investigated. OFC Christensen powered on the GPS and used its "Home" future to locate the address of the owner. The address that came up was 729 Park Dr NE, Atlanta, Ga 30306, located on 601 beat. The address was within half a mile of the location where we came into contact with the accused. We relocated to that address and were able to contact the owner/ victim of the GPS. I then asked the victim where the vehicle was located and she stated, that is was around the corner at 728 Cooledge Ave NE. We went to the vehicle, a 1996 Green Toyota Corolla. I noticed that the front passenger window had been broken out and that the inside of the vehicle appeared as if somebody had gone through it. The victim stated that she had left the GPS unit inside of the glove box the day before. I observed that the glove box was open and it was empty. The victim stated that all the contents of the glove box were thrown around the vehicle and the GPS unit wasn't there. I also noticed that the inside of the vehicle was dry, even though it was raining. This led me to believe that the window had just recently been broken out. The victim also stated to me that she did not give the accused permission to be inside of her vehicle. The victim also stated to me that she had gone to her vehicle around 0100hrs to retrieve some items and that it wasn't damaged then. I then advised the accused his Miranda Rights and he agreed to speak with me. I asked the accused if the victim’s vehicle that was parked in front of my patrol car was the vehicle he found the GPS at and he stated, "Yes!" I asked the accused once again about how he got the GPS and why he had the screwdriver on him. The accused then stated, “You can charge me but remember I wasn't in the vehicle when you found me!" I then asked the accused if he had been locked up for entering auto before and he stated, " yeah a lot, I know the law!" The accused then stated that he didn't want to talk to me and I ended all questions. I then began to tell the accused him charges and that was when he made a sudden utterance stating, “That fine, again they will drop it because you didn't see when I WENT into the vehicle!" The damage to the vehicle was estimated to be less than $500.00. The accused was placed into custody and charged with Entering Auto, Possession of Tools and Criminal Trespass and was transported to the Fulton County Jail by unit 1515. Warrants for the accused arrest were issued by Fulton County Mag. Judge Roberts (EW0102139, EW0102140, and EW0102141). Atlanta Police Crime Scene Tech Traugott (7344) responded to the location and took photos of the vehicle, property and the accused. The victim also filled out a statement form which was turned into Evidence, as well as the screw driver. The GPS was returned to the victim. The accused was also listed on ACIC as being on active probation in Georgia and a notification was sent to his Probation Officer. Accused also had at least (6) previous arrest for entering auto and his information will be sent to the Zone 5 Repeat Offender Officer as well as Zone 5 CID and Zone 6 CID. Unit 1593 (SGT Hunt) was notified of the arrest. There is nothing further at this time.

The arrest of Dwight Beck for Theft from Automobile’s will certainly help the neighborhood. However, we must remain diligent and not leave items in our vehicles as there are still other criminals out there that look for crimes of opportunity.

Dustin Jones one of the homeless panhandlers that on occasion exposes himself to individuals that refuse to give him money was arrested for Pedestrian in Roadway. He has warrants for multiple misdemeanor charges out of Tennessee but they will not extradite.

Reminder: All members call 911 first if you see a crime in progress or a suspicious person or activity, and then call the FBAC Phone. The phone number is 770-310-0871.

If you see someone or something suspicious please report it to the police. When driving or out walking keep an eye out in the neighborhood, what you see and report just might prevent a crime.

We also want to encourage everyone to recruit your neighbors to the FBAC Program. The more members that FBAC has the more patrols and hours we can add to the program. FBAC continues to be a valuable asset to the neighborhood and we need your help to add to the membership.

Happy New Year!
